How can you help
Ideally we would love to see these beautiful friendly cats gets homes. From helping at the shelter, it was evident that the majority of adoptions were outside of Greece – mainly to Germany, Holland, Netherlands and UK. This is why we need your help as pet cats in Greece seem to be something of a rarity.
Ok, so adopting a cat and taking it abroad, especially to the UK, you may think would be difficult. However, the volunteers at RAWS have been doing it for years and I myself have a Greek cat and 2 Greek dogs.
Firstly, find your cat or more likely they find you! Visit the colony at Kalithea spa or alternatively see some photo’s (however cats at Kalithea do get adopted so may no longer be available.)
Once you have found your cat then they will need vaccine and microchip – cost approx £30. Then we book them on a flight. Cats going to the UK will have to go into quarantine on arrival unless the pet passport system is used, difference being that the 6 month quarantine is served in Greece, rather than the UK.
People get scared by the thought of quarantine and the cost. However, it may be possible that the cat is fostered by one of RAWS volunteers for this time. Adoption to other countries, such as Germany is easier as no quarantine is needed and flights are cheaper. But for the UK it is not as difficult, i have done it 3 times!
